The Second Life Creators Helping Creators round-table meeting was held on December 16th, 2024. It was a call via Zoom with Philip Rosedale (CTO & founder) and Brad Oberwager (CEO) of Linden Lab, parent company of Second Life. The stated goal (paraphrased) is to bring more creators into the conversation, giving them the chance to voice their thoughts, concerns, and collaborate directly with Linden Lab to shape the future of Second Life. There will be a part 2 scheduled.

This is separate and in addition to the usual Content Creation User Group meetings held by the Second Life team in-world. You can view the schedule here: Second Life Calendar

General notes from the meeting are in this document: CHC Meeting Notes

Second Life's Twitch Ban Upheld

At the round-table with Linden Lab staff held via Zoom, the topic of the current Twitch ban was discussed. Twitch is a live-streaming platform used for games, artwork, or just chatting. Many artists in the Second Life community have expressed interest in showcasing their creative process or creating tutorials on Twitch but are unable to do so due to the ban.

Brad Oberwager mentioned that he discussed the ban with the current owner of Twitch last Saturday. Unfortunately, the ban is permanent and will not be lifted. He stated that perhaps if the ownership changed, there may be another chance at appealing the ban.

This news was disappointing to some attendees. One person suggested that Linden Lab create a new platform, although this is unlikely due to the current staff being spread thin. Others have considered using alternative live-streaming platforms such as YouTube.
